Conversion optimization for online stores

Conversion optimization: understand first, then design.

We are experts in conversion optimization (CRO) and start with the behavior of your buyers. We measure where your online store loses the most of them, find the reason, redesign that spot and test whether it sells better.

  • Every change justified in advance
  • What wins the test is built in for good
  • Experience from 180+ stores we have worked on

How we work

Conversion optimization in five steps.

Behind this is our 545 method: we sort the path to purchase into 5 decisions, 4 forces act on each one, and 5 steps lead from measurement to the new page. After step 5, step 1 begins again with the next spot. One cycle takes 6 months.

  1. Schritt 1: Measure

Where does your store stand, and are the numbers right?

In the first month we check whether your tracking records visits, carts and orders completely, and correct it where needed. Then we collect the metric for each of the five decisions, split by device and traffic source. No right decision can be built on wrong numbers.

    • Check tracking and correct it where needed
    • One metric per decision, from click-through rate to repeat purchase rate
    • Split by mobile, desktop and traffic source
    • Technical check, for example of load time

ResultFive metrics you can trust. No verdict before clean data.

  2. Schritt 2: Narrow down

Where does your store lose the most buyers?

We look for the decision where you lose the most buyers in absolute terms. A weak rate on a rarely visited page can cost less than a mediocre one in the cart. This gives us the order in which we work.

    • Losses per decision in absolute numbers
    • Order of the spots, with reasons
    • Agreed with you before we begin

ResultThe spot where we start. You see the order and the reasons beforehand.

  3. Schritt 3: Explain

Why are buyers lost exactly there?

We check the spot against the four forces ease, framing, loss and reassurance and show which one is at work. For this we evaluate what your customers say in surveys, reviews and forums, and review the page for usability in a UX audit. In our experience this is the step most often skipped.

    • Check against ease, framing, loss and reassurance
    • Customer voices from surveys, reviews and forums
    • UX audit on mobile and desktop
    • Hypothesis: if we change X, we expect Y, because Z

ResultA written hypothesis for each spot. Or the finding that the cause is price, range or traffic.

  4. Schritt 4: Design

    One hypothesis, one change.

We redesign the spot with copy, images and layout. This is where what your customer does next takes shape. For the test we code the new version. In Shopify we build it in for good ourselves, on other store platforms your development team does. Before the start we check it on mobile and desktop.

    • Design with copy, images and layout
    • Coding of the new version
    • Quality check before the start

ResultThe new version, checked and ready for the test.

  5. Schritt 5: Test

    Did the change work?

Where the order volume is enough, in an A/B test: some visitors see the current page, some the new one. How many orders the test needs, we set in advance. Otherwise we compare before and after and name the uncertainty openly. What clearly blocks, we fix without a test.

    • A/B test with order volume set in advance
    • Otherwise a before-and-after comparison
    • Monthly evaluation with you
    • Winners built in for good, carried over to other pages

ResultWinners go live, on other pages too. What loses, we say openly. Then step 1 begins again.

Conversion calculator

This much revenue is left unclaimed in your store.

Enter your numbers and see what more buyers from the same visitors bring in 6 months. The conversion rate is the share of visits that end with an order.

Revenue in 6 months

  1. Today€360,000
  2. Good: +2 percentage pointsAdditional revenue compared to today: +€360,000Conversion Rate 2.0% to 4.0%Total revenue €720,000
  3. Strong: +5 percentage pointsAdditional revenue compared to today: +€900,000Conversion Rate 2.0% to 7.0%Total revenue €1,260,000

At +2 percentage points, waiting costs you €60,000 / month

Discuss your numbers

A model calculation, not a promise. Calculated in percentage points (for example 2% becomes 4% or 7%), with the same visitors, the same order value and from day one. Only the measurement in your store is reliable.

How the calculation works

  1. Today, 2 out of 100 visits end with an order. The other 98 end without one.

  2. With +2 percentage points, 4 out of 100 order, that is 2x as many orders as today. With +5 percentage points it is 7 out of 100.

  3. Our way there: we find the spot where your store loses the most buyers and redesign it. Cold traffic from ads we warm up with landing pages before it reaches the store. The goal: some of those who leave without ordering today buy after all, and the same traffic turns into more revenue.

How landing pages warm up cold traffic

What you get

What happens to your store in 6 months.

Analysis, design, development and measurement work together at our end. That is how an insight becomes a tested change in your store.

  1. Tracking check

In the first month we check whether your tracking records visits, carts and orders completely. If something is missing, we correct it before we make the first decision.

  2. Your customers' voices

Post-purchase surveys, reviews, forums: that is where you find what makes your customers hesitate and the words they use to talk about your product. Hypotheses and copy grow from this.

  3. List of hypotheses

Every idea becomes a hypothesis in the format If, Then, Because and goes on a shared list, sorted by expected impact and effort. The list belongs to you.

  4. Design and copy

We design the new version with copy, images and layout, for mobile and desktop. The copy speaks in your customers' words.

  5. Development and implementation

For tests we code the variants. In Shopify we build winners into your store for good. On other store platforms your development team takes that over.

  6. A/B tests

Where the order volume is enough, we check changes in an A/B test. The required order volume is fixed before the start, and evaluation follows statistical significance.

  7. Quick fixes

Usability errors, unclear navigation, missing trust elements: what clearly blocks, we fix without a test. Otherwise half of your visitors would keep running into the error.

  8. Meetings and evaluation

Once a week we talk with you about running tests and next steps. Once a month we evaluate what worked and what did not.

Honest assessment

Who the program pays off for.

Conversion optimization does not fit every store. Whether it fits yours, we tell you before you hire us.

  1. Traffic, but too few purchases

Visitors come, but too few buy. Then the opportunity lies in the store itself: more orders from the visitors who are already there.

  2. Few orders

For A/B tests, the number of orders is what counts. If it is not enough, we work with customer surveys, UX audits and before-and-after comparisons.

  3. 6 months of time

Analysis, implementation and measurement take time before the results are reliable. That is why we work in cycles of 6 months. After that, you decide whether to continue.

  4. When the store is not the problem

Sometimes the cause is price, range or the visitors themselves. Then we tell you so openly and do not rebuild pages that are not the problem.

Questions about conversion optimization

Common questions about conversion optimization.

Cost, duration, traffic: here are the short answers. Whatever stays open, we clear up in the intro call.

Ask your open questions

What is conversion optimization?

Conversion optimization, also called conversion rate optimization or CRO for short, has one goal: more of your online store's visitors buy. The conversion rate is the share of visits that end with an order.

To get there, we specifically change the spots where your store measurably loses buyers. Then we check whether the change works.

What does conversion optimization cost?

It depends on the state of your store and how much we should take on. A flat price that fits every store would be a guess.

You get a precise estimate in the intro call. What a higher conversion rate means for your revenue, the calculator on this page shows as a model.

Why do you work in cycles of 6 months?

In the first month we check tracking and technology. After that, each test takes weeks to months depending on order volume. That is how long analysis, implementation and measurement need to deliver reliable results. What clearly blocks, we fix earlier, without a test.

After 6 months you decide for yourself whether to continue. Many of our clients have worked with us for over 3 years.

Do I need a lot of traffic for conversion optimization?

For A/B tests, the number of orders matters more than the number of visitors. As a rule of thumb: to prove a difference of 20 percent, a test needs around 400 orders per variant, for 10 percent around 1,600.

For conversion optimization as a whole, this does not apply. If the order volume is not enough, we work with customer surveys, UX audits and before-and-after comparisons and name the uncertainty openly.

What is the difference to the store audit and A/B testing?

Conversion optimization is the whole program: measure, narrow down, explain, design, test, and then start over, in cycles of 6 months.

The store audit covers the first three steps and ends with findings and hypotheses. A/B testing is the measurement method in the last step. You can book both on their own, for example if your team wants to test its own ideas and designs cleanly.

How do I recognize a good conversion optimization agency?

Ask whether the agency checks your tracking first, justifies every change in advance and also tells you what did not work. And whether analysis and design come together: a beautiful page does not sell by itself, and neither does an analysis without implementation.

Our reviews in the Shopify partner directory are public: 5.0 out of 5 stars from 17 reviews. In the intro call you speak directly with David Pehl or Anas Elimani.

Do you offer conversion optimization outside Shopify too?

Yes. We run analyses and A/B tests for stores on other platforms too, because how people decide does not depend on the store platform.

Full implementation we take on in Shopify. On other platforms, your own development team implements the changes. If you want to switch to Shopify, we also handle the migration.

Where does your store lose the most buyers?

In the intro call you talk for 30 minutes with David Pehl or Anas Elimani. You describe where your store stands and what you have already tried. We tell you openly whether conversion optimization is the right path for you.
